So I am asking myself is the individual that I contacted the other day to help with his job hunt depressed or just rude? Obviously I would be saddened if he was spiraling into a depression and would significantly increase my tolerance of his behavior.
But, if he thinks that a curt email is a way of showing someone that they appreciate your help – then they better prepare for a VERY long bout of unemployment.
Here are some tips to make sure you don’t appear rude when unemployed:
-
Return email and phone calls immediately. When someone takes the time to reach out to you return the email or phone call immediately.
-
Don’t send curt or rude messages. Think before you press the send button, as the person offering to help may be put off by what is perceived as a curt or rude message.
-
Act like you appreciate the offer of help. Even, if believe you don’t need the help or want it, at least look like your appreciate the offer of help as you never know what the individual could offer.
-
Remember, you are not the only one looking for a job! These are tough economic times – they key will be to separate yourself from all of those other individuals with similar skills. Our advice – don’t offend those that are trying to help you!
