Know Thy Employees = Key to Employee Engagement

For several years, we have been strong believers that one of the keys to creating engaged employees is to “know them”. After all, how can you as a Leader or Manager truly lead your employees, inspire them, or grow them – if you don’t take the time to know them as people?

 

We found a great video by Matthew Kelly who is the author of The Dream Manager – one of our favorite books! In this video, Matthew outlines how to engage employees:

 

1)     Share Dreams. Matthew Kelly believes that it is critical to understand the dreams of your employees. Why? How can you manage or truly know someone, if you don’t know their dreams?

2)     Foster a unique Manager-Employee Relationship. Dreams are contagious. Sharing dreams creates a Manager – Employee dynamic that is truly remarkable.

3)     “If You Know Them - You Can Help Them”. By sharing dreams, the people Manager can focus in on ways to help the employee realize their own individual dreams. After all, if you want them to do something for the business, then teach them to do something in their lives!
