Is Employee Engagement A Fad?

Is employee engagement just another management fad?

A fad is something that many people are interested in for a short time; passing fashion or a craze.

Based on the definition above, how could anyone believe that employee engagement is another management fad? How could a company ONLY be interested in engaging their employees for a short period of time? How could employee engagement be merely a craze or a passing management fashion?

While we may give engagement a different name, the notion of engaging employees will never go out of style. Anyone, by now, understands that employees are absolutely critical to overall business success and the more we focus on providing an environment where they want to stay; continue to say good things about us; and strive to do more – will never go out of style.

While there are a plethora of views on what employee engagement really is – we should not lose sight of the most important thing. Employee engagement is about creating an environment where employees enjoy what they do, believe in what they do and feel valued for doing it. Who could possibly argue that creating an environment that where your employees want to “stay, say, and strive” is a craze or passing management fashion?
